Speed converter

speed converter km/h m/s mph © dan_chenier - Fotolia This speed converter allows you to simultaneously convert speed into several common units like kilometre per hour, mile per hour, metre per second (base unit of speed in the International System of units - SI), nautic knot, speed of sound or speed of light.

Enter the speed in the second column of the following array and the conversion will be performed automatically in all other units.

kilometre per hour kph
foot per second ft/s
mile per hour mph
nautic knot kn
metre per second m/s
speed of sound (with air temperature of 15°C)mach
kilometre per second km/s
speed of light in vacuum c
Security length (length travelled in 2 seconds) m
Distance de freinage sur sol sec (déccélération 11m/s2) m
Distance de freinage sur sol mouillé (déccélération 8.5m/s2) m
Wind Beaufort number (see table below)

Compute speed from distance travelled during interval of time

Enter distance travelled and the duration, related will be automatically computed:
Length
Duration
Vitesse

The Beaufort scale is mesuring the average wind speed at sea

Beaufort 0 - calm (0 knot)
Beaufort 1 - light air (1 to 3 knots)
Beaufort 2 - light breeze (4 to 6 knots)
Beaufort 3 - gentle breeze (7 to 10 knots)
Beaufort 4 - moderate breeze (11 to 16 knots)
Beaufort 5 - fresh breeze (17 to 21 knots)
Beaufort 6 - strong breeze (22 to 27 knots)
Beaufort 7 - High wind, moderate gale, near gale (28 to 33 knots)
Beaufort 8 - gale, fresh gale (34 to 40 knots)
Beaufort 9 - strong/severe gale (41 to 47 knots)
Beaufort 10 - storm, whole gale (48 to 55 knots)
Beaufort 11 - violent storm (56 to 63 knots)
Beaufort 12 - hurricane force (at least 64 knots)
