The Beaufort scale is mesuring the average wind speed at sea : Beaufort number

Beaufort 3 - gentle breeze (7 to 10 knots)
Beaufort 4 - moderate breeze (11 to 16 knots)
Beaufort 5 - fresh breeze (17 to 21 knots)
Beaufort 6 - strong breeze (22 to 27 knots)
Beaufort 7 - High wind, moderate gale, near gale (28 to 33 knots)
Beaufort 8 - gale, fresh gale (34 to 40 knots)
Beaufort 9 - strong/severe gale (41 to 47 knots)
Beaufort 10 - storm, whole gale (48 to 55 knots)
Beaufort 11 - violent storm (56 to 63 knots)
Beaufort 12 - hurricane force (at least 64 knots)
